Southern Diagnostic Laboratories’ Molecular department uses state of the art technology to test for HPV (human papillomavirus) in cervical specimens.  This testing is an in vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection of DNA from 14 high risk HPV types.

Screening is also offered for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrheae with two testing options available:

·         The APTIMA Combo 2 Assay is a target amplification nucleic acid probe test that utilizes target capture for the in vitro qualitative detection and differentiation of ribosomal RNA.

·         The GEN-PROBE PACE 2 System is a rapid DNA probe test which utilizes the technique of nucleic acid hybridization.

An additional test offered is the Affirm VPIII Microbial Identification Test which is a DNA probe test for use in the detection and identification of Candida species, Gardnerella vaginalis, and Trichomonas vaginalis nucleic acid in vaginal fluid specimens.

Unless repeat testing is necessary, the turnaround time on all molecular testing is 24 hours, Monday – Friday.

Our technical staff has a combined total of 55 years of working experience which includes 12 years of Molecular testing experience.
